My view is that you have everything you need inside to experience a sense of well-being and contentment. I believe that you are much more resilient than you might even realize; it's a matter of learning to access your inner wisdom that is already here. I have been a social worker for over 12 years, and have the honor of working with individuals courageously dealing with significant life challenges, such as a serious health condition, anxiety attacks, chronic stress, or the loss of a loved one. I continue to be so inspired by the depth of resiliency demonstrated by my clients on a daily basis. I have found that mindfulness practice can be extremely effective in helping with these issues and accessing the resiliency that is already present.
Mindfulness is a practice of awareness and openness to present moment experience, relating to thoughts, feelings, and sensations with acceptance and even curiosity. Depending on your interest, counseling sessions can involve connecting mind and body through mindfulness, while also spending time exploring your history to address any patterns that can be changed for personal growth, development, and healthier relationships.
I have been practicing mindfulness for over 20 years, and am deeply committed to my own daily meditation practice. I began teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to people with multiple sclerosis in 2001. Since then, I've taught MBSR to a variety of populations, most recently for people affected by cancer, and for the general population. I am a Qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher, receiving my training through the internationally renowned and evidence-based Stress Reduction Program at the Center for Mindfulness - University of Massachusetts Medical School. I received a Master of Social Work degree at Colorado State University in 2007, and have worked in a variety of health care settings, including oncology (outpatient cancer center), hospice, and a day program for people with multiple sclerosis and traumatic brain injury.
